Community Based Day Program

Unlike a lot of programs at other agencies where they just go to the mall and walk around, Ability Specialists volunteers at various sites, such as Ronald McDonald House and Project Angel Heart. They actually get involved with helping people, rather than doing everyday things that we can do as a family.

The Ability Specialists Community Based Day Program teaches the skills that help participants transition into a work environment. We volunteer at different locations and work in small groups. By partnering with organizations like Arc Thrift Stores, Ronald McDonald House and Project Angel Heart, we make valuable contributions to the community while integrating participants into a collaborative, structured working environment.
Among other lessons, participants learn:
- Teamwork
- How to take direction
- How to work well with others
- Self-esteem
- A core sense of security
- Comfort with one's abilities & disabilities
- Respect for self & others
- Natural consequences
- Personal & professional boundaries
- Workplace preparedness
