In any work environment, change is inevitable. For adults with cognitive disabilities, adapting to change can be difficult. At the same time, employers may run into challenges managing their employees with disabilities. Having a job coach is a great way to develop constructive relationships between employees and their supervisors. The Ability Specialists Supported Employment Program helps both participants and employers to collaborate in successful, long-term employment.
Why Parents Like Our Supported Employment Services
"If it wasn't for Ability Specialists Garrett probably would have lost his job! Garrett's job coach, Rick, not only helped Garrett keep his job, but also alleviated a lot of his stress as well. Rick supported and coached both Garrett and his supervisors on the importance of a regular schedule, as well as, putting his daily job duties on paper for him to review. It really helps Garrett stay on task and succeed at his job."- Jennifer Thomasson, Mother Of Ability Specialists Supported Employment Participant
Why Employers Like Our Supported Employment Services
"Garrett's job coach, Rick, showed us how to better understand Garrett on an emotional level which resulted in a better working relationship for all of us. Rick gives us another perspective of Garrett's actions and helps redirect him so that he stays on track. Rick is proactive and offers new ways to deliver information and instruction to Garrett. He completely changed our relationship with Garrett and is a valuable member of the team."- Ryan Stone, Food & Nutrition Supervisor at the University of Colorado Hospital
At-A-Glance
Services are provided on an individual basis. Typically, participants need two hours of Supported Employment services each week.
Job Coaching services are available once an individual has obtained employment. We provide job skills training, tailored job assessments, job site orientation and monitoring of the individual at the job site. Collaborating with a network of businesses and the Colorado Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, we help our participants maintain employment stability.
Ongoing Employment Support services help employees and employers work together to form productive, long-term relationships. We consult with employers to help them better understand the needs of adults with disabilities. If on-the-job issues arise, we provide immediate responses to help resolve conflicts quickly. Most importantly, we don't make excuses; we find creative solutions to maximize the productivity of everyone involved.
