Introducing Dr. Nicolas Manning: Leading Ability Specialists Into Its Next Chapter
In times of transition, organizations have a choice: they can maintain the status quo, or they can evolve. At Ability Specialists, this moment represents more than just a change in leadership—it is a season of intentional growth and a renewed commitment to the individuals we serve.
At the heart of this evolution is Dr. Nicolas Manning, who steps into his role as Executive Director at a pivotal time for our community.
A Leader Grounded in Purpose
With over 20 years of experience in human services, Dr. Manning’s career has been defined by a single goal: building systems that truly work for people. His background is as diverse as it is deep, spanning:
Residential Care: Supporting high-risk youth through critical transitions.
Operational Excellence: Leading large-scale organizations serving tens of thousands of individuals.
Human Resources & DEI: Shaping inclusive cultures and people-first strategies.
His academic background—including a doctorate in organizational leadership—ensures that his approach is not just passionate, but structured for long-term impact.
A Vision for Sustainable Growth
For Dr. Manning, growth isn't about numbers; it’s about capacity and integrity. He is focused on strengthening our foundation so we can serve more families without compromising the quality of our care. His key priorities include:
Strengthening Structure: Clarifying program goals and measurable success metrics.
Expanding Capacity: Growing our current facility to welcome more participants.
Financial Sustainability: Ensuring Ability Specialists remains a pillar of the community for years to come.
The Three Pillars of Our Future
To provide the best possible support, Dr. Manning is refining our focus into three distinct, connected program areas:
Vocational & Work-Based Programs: Skill-building and real-world independence.
Evening Social Programs: Creating vital spaces for connection and community.
Clinical & Behavioral Services: Evidence-based care tailored to individual growth.
A Message from Dr. Manning
"Inclusion isn’t about fitting people in—it’s about building spaces where everyone belongs." — George Dei
"Hi Families, I’m Nicholas Manning, and I’m excited to join the Ability Specialists community. I am a proud father of four with a wonderful wife, Stephanie. We own two dogs and a cat, so our house is always busy! When I am not coaching or parenting my kiddos, you can find me at the gym, playing softball, or watching all things Colorado Sports (Go Broncos!).
I’ve spent most of my career creating safe, empowering environments for individuals with disabilities. My goal here is simple: strengthen stability, elevate our experiences, and build deeper trust with you.
I am also thrilled to introduce two amazing leaders joining our team:
Shannon Phen – Program Director
Donna Nazarchyk – BCBA
We’re growing, improving our communication, and shaping new opportunities. I can’t wait to meet each of you."
The Foundation for What’s Next
Leadership transitions bring opportunity. With Dr. Manning at the helm, alongside Shannon and Donna, Ability Specialists is positioned to move forward with a clear strategic direction and a stronger operational foundation. We are building a future where impact is measurable, and every individual has a clear pathway to participation.
At Ability Specialists, our impact is just beginning to expand. We invite you to grow with us.
