Megan’s Path to Purpose and Professionalism
At Ability Specialists, we believe that every step toward independence and empowerment matters—and Megan is a shining example of what growth looks like in action.
Since joining our community, Megan has been making meaningful progress, especially in developing her learning skills and embracing a new mindset: one that sees volunteering not just as an activity, but as a real job with real expectations.
While in our Community Job Training Program participants build the essential skills they need to thrive in real-world work environments. Participants volunteer in small groups with over a dozen nonprofit partners across the Denver Metro area—including organizations like We Don’t Waste and Habitat for Humanity. These partnerships offer more than just work experience; they provide a collaborative, inclusive, and structured environment where our participants can grow socially and emotionally, all while making a real impact in the community. With guidance and support, Megan has been working on understanding the responsibilities that come with having a job—like commitment, consistency, and the value of showing up. These are big steps, and she’s taking them with enthusiasm and dedication.
Then through an interview process and with guardian approval, Megan is preparing for an exciting next phase: transitioning into Job Club. A structured training period as part of our Work Crew, where she’ll apply her new skills in a hands-on setting and continue to build confidence and independence. Today she is on track to officially join —and we couldn’t be more excited to see what’s next for her.
Megan’s journey is a reminder that with the right support, belief, and opportunity, incredible things happen. Way to go, Megan!
