Community in Action: Erik and Dr. Manning Support Wholly Kicks' Kicks for Colorado
At Ability Specialists, we love finding meaningful ways to engage with the incredible organizations that make the Denver Metro area feel like home. This June, we had a very exciting reason to tune into FOX31. Our wonderful participant, Erik Johnson, alongside Dr. Manning, stepped in front of the cameras to participate in the 4th Annual Kicks for Colorado donation telethon.
Representing our program on a live broadcast is a huge milestone, and Erik did a fantastic job sharing his energy and support for a cause that directly impacts so many families in our region.
What is Kicks for Colorado?
The Kicks for Colorado campaign is a massive annual summer initiative spearheaded by our community partner, Wholly Kicks, in collaboration with FOX31 and Metro Brokers. Running throughout the month of June, this dedicated campaign aims to distribute roughly 10,000 pairs of brand-new, sneaker-style shoes and socks to children and adults facing economic disparity across Denver and Aurora.
For individuals with disabilities, having access to proper, supportive footwear can make a world of difference in daily comfort, mobility, and independence. Wholly Kicks works tirelessly to ensure that everyone who receives a pair of shoes walks away with a sense of dignity and care, including those who need adaptive footwear options.
How You Can Join Us in Supporting This Initiative
The success of the Kicks for Colorado campaign relies entirely on neighbors helping neighbors. Thanks to broadcast coverage on FOX31 and Channel 2, this year's telethon has already raised vital awareness and thousands of dollars, but the drive continues all month long.
If you would like to get involved, there are a few simple ways you can contribute:
Donate New Footwear: You can purchase and drop off brand-new sneaker-style shoes and socks at various collection boxes located throughout the Denver Metro area, many of which are hosted at local Metro Brokers offices.
Provide Financial Support: If you prefer to let the organizers buy footwear in bulk, you can make a monetary donation directly to the campaign. Past drives have raised upwards of $15,000 to purchase specific sizes and adaptive styles for those in need.
Let Us Help You Connect
Because we want to make it as easy as possible for our Ability Specialists family to participate, we are happy to help point you in the right direction. If you would like to find the drop-off location closest to you, or if you want to learn more about the schedule for the rest of June, please reach out to our team.
When you contact us, just let us know a couple of quick details:
Are you looking to donate footwear/funds, or are you a family looking to request assistance with shoes?
What specific neighborhood or area in Aurora or the Denver Metro area are you located in?
We are so grateful to Wholly Kicks, FOX31, and everyone who continues to make Colorado a more supportive, inclusive place to live. A huge congratulations to Erik and Dr. Manning for a wonderful job representing us on the air!
