From Service to Success: The Power of the Volunteer-to-Work Model

At Ability Specialists (ABS), our ultimate goal has always been clear: providing a pathway for individuals to transition from meaningful volunteer work into thriving, paid careers. Today, we are celebrating some incredible milestones that prove this model doesn’t just work, it changes lives.

Success Stories in Motion

We are so proud to highlight Kassi and Megan, who have successfully transitioned from our volunteer crews into our specialized work crews. Their journey represents the heart of what we do. By starting in a volunteer capacity, they built confidence and stamina, which paved the way for their current roles in the workforce.

We also have a fantastic update on Felix, who has officially rejoined our work coaching program. Seeing familiar faces return to level up their skills is a testament to the supportive environment we strive to create.

The ABS Model: How It Works

Our "Peer-Powered" approach is designed to meet people where they are and give them the tools to go where they want to be.

  1. The Volunteer Crew: Individuals start by giving back to local nonprofits. This stage is all about learning the rhythm of a "good day’s work" and developing essential soft skills in a low-pressure, community-focused environment.

  2. Skill Building & Evaluation: As our team members grow, we conduct ongoing evaluations to identify their unique strengths and interests.

  3. The Workforce Transition: Once ready, individuals move into the competitive marketplace. With the help of supportive employment and dedicated job coaching, they secure actual jobs where they can contribute their talents to the local economy.

Over and over again, we see that when you combine community service with the right support, the results are life-changing. Kristie, Megan, and Felix are living proof that the journey from volunteer to professional is a path worth taking.
